Norview Middle School Reviews

I was a teacher there at Norview Middle school and I must say that the teacher did bust their tales on SOLS, our new principal took every ounce of time to make sure kids did the afterschool sol tutoring. Took the time to right a comment or two on each student's report card to tell them what they needed to work on and to enroll in the SPEAK program . Several of my kids were taken out of my music class for sol prep. I saw teachers stay after school to help out, what has the scores, low is that it is on the students side....not the teacher side and that parents need to be involved..not some ALL, I had several parents not caring about the student's grade, and see how involve they are in their lives. The person below that wrote about the principal not doing programs is misunderstood.

What is going on with the sol scores our children are not getting the help needed i think the principal should really start opening up more programs, tutors to get the help for all the children that are in need. To help them increase these scores. My son came from dream keepers and all the kids there scored so much higher there then this middle school this is very scary, whats going to happen next year when the work gets harder how many are going to pass or fail.

The teachers and staff are great at Norview Middle.

I think Norview is doing the best they can with what they have. My daughters sixth grade teachers seem to be pretty dilagent about keeping up with her and what she needs to work on and are always available to stay after school at least one day a week to give her extra help when needed. It is your resonsibility to make sure your child asks for the help. It is not up to the school to raise your children and teach them right from wrong, these children are bad because it is an allowed behavior at home. Norview keep on trying with what you are givin to work with, and please continue to work on the violence there, these children are out of control and unfortunatly so are their parents.

My child is in the special education program at Norview. And coming from a much larger district this is the best school I have ever dealt with. I find the teachers to be involved and the counselors knowledgable. The new principal is making great strides and doing wonderful work. the school for improvement as does most inter city schools. I believe that a teacher can only give your child as much as your do. I've had several teacher's bend over backwards to help my daughter. I think more parents need to be involved and it would lead to an even better school.

There are certian teachers and Deans at Norview Middle that is in need of some serious training when it comes to dealing with how they talk to parents. One of the Deans (who I shall not name) has been very rude and sarcastic to me when I called to voice my concern on problems concerning my child. A note was dropped on my child's desk by another student and my child recieved detention for passing a note. When I called to inquire as to why my child recieved detention, this Dean stated 'for passing notes'. So I tried to use an analogy to try to get her to understand better by stating, if I rob a bank and drop the money on your doorstep do you get charged with the robbing the bank? Here is her sarcastic reply 'this is not a robbery'. I can go on and on.

I believe also this school needs help with violence. Everyday my daughter seems to come home with a story about kids in the hall fighting, punching, rumor about someone having a knife, etc. My daughter feels she is in prison due to all the security guards. Some kids spoil it for everyone. Needs more racial balance.

This school needs serious help. The safety of the students needs to be a priority. The teachers cannot interact and help the students as they should, for fear of their safety. Safety of all at this school is a major problem and a big concern for parents.
