I'm quitting as soon as I get a raise.” Posted By: parent Quality Score: 3 2008-01-01 “Unfortunately, there has been a high teacher turnover rate since my child arrived at this school. This, combined with the fact that some teachers are not qualified to teach gifted children, that they seem to have to teach to the SOLs, and the principal's lackluster responsive to concerns, forces me to rate the school as only average. However, there are many things I like about the school---and I think overall it has been a good place for my particular child to be, compared to his zoned school.” Posted By: parent Quality Score: 2 2006-06-01 “I have been familiar with this school since the day it opened & I can whole heartedly agree that it is not the school it was intended to be or the school it once was. This school was designed to be a differential learning environment, but is has fallen victim to the SOL teaching method. The teachers teach by those guidelines and therefore it has become just another school, not challenging students. Not all teachers in the school are certified to teach gifted children, which doesn't create a differential learning environment. Homework & projects are piled on the students, allowing little time for after school or weekend activities. As a parent, if I had to make the choice again, I would kave left my child in her regular school. It has been two year since my daughter left and my son now attends. I have to say that the school is not as good as it once was. The teacher's are not allowed to teach in the manner in which the school was intended. Unfortunatly like every other school they have fallen victim to teaching to take the sol's and that is their main motivation. It is a shame because it was once a fantastic school for gifted children and now it is like most other elementary schools. I am glad that there is a place for gifted students where they will be challenged daily and encouraged to think outside of the box. They curriculum is designed so that kids do more than memorize information. They apply what they learn to daily life. They also involve the children in plenty of activities that encourage their creative sides. Good choice to develop a well-rounded, well-educated child.”
